The Issaquah theater finally had power this morning so Jay went for The Odd Couple’s matinee  and opening night today. The boys and I ended up going to the Ravenna-Eckstein community center to play with Noa (and Vaughn). We went after Miles’ nap, around 1pm. The Cooneys had been there for an hour already and they stayed until 2pm, heading home for the kids’ naps. We stayed until a little after 3pm. I got a some cute photos of the boys on a climbing/slide structure. Miles LOVED sliding down the small slide!

Below is a video of Miles walking in the boy’s bedroom, just before bedtime. A peek at a typical evening with the boys.

Bedtime Walking

The first day of snow was Saturday, 1/14, while Black Grammie and Papa were here. It continued to snow. Both boys went off to daycare and Montessori on Tuesday, the day Black Grammie and Papa were leaving. I decided that though my Professional Development Day was cancelled, I’d still go up to Edmonds Elementary school to get some work done. After dropping Elias off at school I headed north. Once I got to the Mountlake Terrace exit, however, I began second guessing my decision. As I drove further west, the road conditions became more dangerous. I called Jay and he told me I should turn around. Since he was in Issaquah, he said that if I got stuck, he wouldn’t be able to go get the boys. That decided it for me, I turned around. By the time I got back into Seattle, it was snowing in our neighborhood. I decided to pick Miles up at Sandie’s. The drive was pretty icy. Mom and Carl at decided not to leave that day due to the snow. We got an email from Elias’ school saying they were going to close at 1pm. I went and got Elias. While gone, Mom and Carl changed their mind (after looking at weather reports) and decided they would leave. The freeways weren’t bad, especially south of us. (And they made the right decision, since it snowed more on Wednesday and Thursday and driving conditions deteriorated!)

This whole week has become a week of Snow Days. Neither boy has gone to school and I have been housebound. On Wednesday, I ended up pulling Elias in the sled to Jane Adams’ playground while I hiked with Miles in the Ergo. It was exhausting. (Elias complained to ME about being tired!) Even Jay’s show, The Odd Couple, that was due to open yesterday in Issaquah had to be cancelled. The Issaquah theater lost power! Jay stayed home with us yesterday. Last night, after sledding in Jane Adams’ field and walking down to Nathan Hale and back, Jay got a call from a spotlight operator for Annie Get Your Gun in Everett. She was stuck in Greenlake on a side street slope. He ended up being a hero and picked her and another production person up and drove them up to Everett for the 8pm show.

The rain is slowly starting, so snow is going to begin to melt. I have sure loved this time home with the boys! Even if we’re feeling a little cabin fever. I feel so lucky that I have been able to witness Miles’ first real walks. He is gaining more and more confidence and going further and further. What an exciting milestone! I will post a video:

Miles Walking

Here are more snow photos. Four at the end are from my phone and were taken during my Wednesday solo walk with the boys, the one of Elias at his school was taken from my phone on Tuesday when I picked him up.

Miles is cruising! He will be walking in no time. As of 1/16 he has taken about 5 steps on his own, walking from security to security.

Black Grammie and Papa are visiting. They are here 1/11-1/17, to help while Jay is in tech for The Odd Couple. It started snowing on Saturday and has been snowing on and off since then. If we get much more snow, Grammie and Papa will need to stay an extra day to make sure they’re traveling (driving back to Arcata) in safe conditions!

We went to conveyer belt sushi with the Grotes for dinner, then to Bellevue Botanical Gardens’ “Garden D’lights”. It was cold but beautiful! We were home by 8:30pm and watched the Space Needle’s fireworks the next morning from Tivo. It was a perfect way to ring in the new year!

We had a wonderful Christmas with Red Grammy and Papa!

It’s Christmas Eve. Red Grammy and Papa are here. They arrived last night. I’ve been frantically working to update the blog from Halloween!

Yesterday, prior to Red Grammy and Papa’s arrival, we went to Matthew’s Beach to see (and hear) the Christmas Ships. (Also, it was Pajama Day at Montessori… check out Elias’ pjs below!) We ran into the Cooneys while there. Grammy and Papa arrived after the boys went to bed. They’ll be here until 12/29. Tomorrow is Christmas. We’re excited and just about to have a delicious pork tenderloin dinner.

Now that the blog is updated, it’s time for me to spend some time with the family! :)

We went on our annual Santa Train, this time the week before Christmas. We went with the Shafers and Grotes. Like usual, Elias and Finn had so much fun together. After the train ride, seeing Santa, and having hot chocolate and cookies, we returned to Seattle and went out to pizza at Zeek’s. Great times with great friends!

(You can see my black eye… I got it when Elias and I were giving Miles’ belly raspberries. Elias and I leaned in at the same time and his head bonked my eye. It didn’t feel too bad but it sure left a mark. Fortunately, now on 12/24 it’s almost gone… 10 days later!)

One evening Jay did a great photo session with the boys in front of the tree:

We went on our annual trip to Sheraton Hotel’s gingerbread house display, Westlake Center carousel, and monorail trip to Seattle Center at the beginning of December.
